Welcome

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. The international organization is made up of over 13,000 local clubs with more than 760,000 members in 96 nations. Among the permanent objectives of Kiwanis is to provide a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities. In the past year, Kiwanis clubs sponsored 147,000 service projects, mostly local, but also national and international in scope. The primary focus of our projects is children.

In a typical year, Kiwanians raise and spend roughly $70 million dollars, and contribute over six million hours of volunteer time in support of our projects. Over the past few years, a few of the ways that the Boulder Kiwanis Club has been of service include the following:

1. Creating and Co-Sponsoring the KIWANIS CLUB OF BOULDER 3rd ANNUAL COLORADO CHILDREN’S DAY. The date is Friday, April 24, 2009.

2. Sponsoring the Boulder County Family Week in conjunction with the Colorado Children's Day Event. Dates are April 25 through May 1, 2009.

3. Playhouse Project. A Child’s Walk-in Playhouse similar to this one is being constructed by the Boulder Valley School Districts’ Technical Training Construction Trades class – thanks to a grant from our Boulder Kiwanis Foundation. The playhouse will be sold and the funds will be used by the
Foundation to pay for the Children’s Day Project. We are contacting unions and construction companies regarding funding. We are hoping this will be an ongoing partnership with the Vo Tech Kids. The Vo Tech publishing department has offered to assist us with the layout, finalization and printing.
Thanks to KEN HOTALING and RAY KNUTSON for this super idea! What a fantastic win/win project for all concerned.

4. Landscaping and providing playground equipment for the Boulder County Safehouse.

5. Volunteering in the “Bring Up Grades” program at Nederland Elementary School.

6. Providing scholarships to graduating high school students and continuing funds for assistance to students at Boulder VO-Tech Center.

7. Sponsoring youth activities, such as the “Stars of Tomorrow” talent show, an Easter egg hunt for disadvantaged children, and cleanup of the local Girl Scout Camp.

8.“Ringing the bell” for the Salvation Army during the Christmas season.

9. Organizing Child Safety programs and supplying equipment.

10. Providing iodine treatments worldwide to eradicate Iodine Deficiency Disorder, through contributions to Kiwanis International Foundations and UNICEF.

11. Sponsoring student led service organizations at CU and Monarch High School.

To support these projects, last year the Boulder Kiwanis Club raised over $20,000 through fundraising activities such as CU football parking, dispensing nuts and bolts for license plates at local motor vehicle departments, pancake breakfasts at the Boulder festivities and Salvation Army Bell Ringing.
