Kiwanis Clubs in Grand Junction, Colorado Stage Successful Pancake Day

Fundraisers are not easy to pull off during economic downturns, and the Kiwanis Clubs in Grand Junction, Colorado found their 43rd annual Pancake Day was a challenge this year. But due to strong efforts in recruiting corporate sponsors, selling tickets, and rounding up items for the silent auction and cake walk, the clubs raised about $59,000 for local non-profit organizations.

The annual event happened on June 11 at Two Rivers Convention Center in Grand Junction, with an estimated 5,000 people attending. The crowd was about average, despite the difficult economic times. Corporate sponsorships, while not as hefty as during the energy boom times of 2006-08, were strong nonetheless at more than $30,000.

The event is staged by the Kiwanis Club of Grand Junction, The Kiwanis Golden K Club, the Kiwanis Aktion Club, and local high school Key Clubs. The Grand Junction clubs also plan to add a middle school Builder’s Club in nearby Fruita in the near future.
